When people see this site, or the dollarforeddie.com website, a lot of them might jump to the conclusion that I'm some sort of deadbeat sitting around at home all day begging on the internet.
It couldn't be farther from the truth.
I do work, even though it's been so hard to find decent work in the last year or two. Right now I waste a lot of my time working for peanuts at a local restaurant that monopolizes my time, and I spend my time off working odd jobs and selling door to door for commissions that are hard to come by.
Up until recently, I've been working in construction, but with thee banks holding out on granting loans, people, businesses, and contractors that have been providing work for construction workers haven't been able to secure the capital to fund new construction projects, and construction has all but dried up.
Is it different where you live? Tell me about it.
I saw it first in Las Vegas when I first got into my specialty of the construction field. Once I got out of voc. school and starting hitting the pavement, most of the companies I contacted had all their people on the bench. Or they were laying their people off because there was no work. Or they were returning all of their rented equipment, since they couldn't pay for it anymore, and many went out of business.
When my family and I moved to Colorado, I saw a similar pattern. Even though I was able to find work here and there, I heard a lot of company's giving the same statements, and heard a lot about 'irons in the fire' that, later, never came around. Now, there's nothing out there (here, where I am), and so I went back to my old experience in restaurants.
Unbelievably, it took me almost two months to get a lousy job in a restaurant. There wasn't enough business for anyone to hire on anyone more, and all restaurants were fully staffed. A restaurant manager I knew from working for her once before told me about how all of he servers had reduced hours, she had restaurant managers working as servers, and people with PH'D's working for her because they couldn't find work anywhere else.
Even though I'm working in a restaurant now, it's as if I've started over, doing the host/food running jobs that are normally entry-level.
So, I work hard, but never get around to finding enough time to seriously start up my writing business, or the time to write the fiction I so dearly love.
Hence, I created the 'Dollar For Eddie' project to hopefully provide some relief, enable me to better pay my bills, pay off my debt, and give me the chance to get my dreams off the ground.
Of course, it's not total begging. I'm trying to give you something back in return for a little, single dollar sent my way.
Donate ONE dollar to my cause, and I'll put your name in one of my books. I'll also list your name, your contribution, and a message of your design on the 'tally' page of my website (how about some 'free' marketing and cross-promotion?). Lastly, whenever I DO write something entertaining, I put it on the 'extras' page. So, you can think of it as paying a dollar to advertise, be entertained, and be immortalized in a published book.
Go here to see the 'extras':

I hope to see your little, 'ole dollar in the mail soon. ;)
